Everyone has a little bit of junk lying around their house, and most of us have a lot. It seems like clutter isn’t a big deal. But when people take on more than they can handle, they often feel anxious and like their lives are out of control.

Cleaning up your home and getting rid of clutter is a good way to take care of yourself.

In our ridiculously detailed how-to, we’ll show you how to start your own project to get rid of clutter. You’ll learn how to clean up any space in your house with ideas for organizing and getting rid of clutter from the top experts in the field.

Why is it important to clean up your houses?

Messiness is anything you keep that doesn’t make your life better in some way. Cleaning your house is about making room for the things that really matter.

Many people feel tired or waste a lot of time searching for things they can’t find when they have too much stuff. In our survey, 48.5% of the people who answered said that having too much stuff in their homes made them feel stressed. And 42.5% of the people who answered the survey said that clutter makes them feel ashamed. When a life of consumption goes beyond “stuff,” people may get depressed or fat in the worst cases. If mold and dust are present in a more serious case of hoarding, it could cause other health problems. Even though it doesn’t happen very often, a house full of junk could even be a fire hazard.

Clearing in Three Easy Steps

1. Make a plan and targets

Plan your strategy before you begin. Starting with specific goals will help you avoid frustration and obstacles, regardless of how much clutter you have to sort through. As you begin to purge your belongings, think about the following:

  • Give each area a grade based on how crowded it is.
  • Take care of one area of the house at a time.
  • Set due dates for each step of your cleanup, and make sure the dates are realistic. Making a decluttering challenge that feels as if a game could indeed help keep you from getting frustrated as you work.

2. Make a way to sort things

As you go through your living area houses, you’ll need a way to organize the things you find. You can come up with your own method, or you can use the well-known Three-Box Method. The Three-Box Method makes you decide on each item individually so you don’t make a bigger mess than you started with.

When you finish each space, empty this box and put the items where they belong. The best way to store these things is in a neat container or drawer that has a label.

3. Remove Clutter from Your house

You can rest easy knowing something you don’t need anymore is going to someone who does. Several charities in your area will take clothes, shoes, and other household items in good condition. Before you drop off a donation, make sure you know what the charity will accept. You could also post about the items on freecycle.org or a Facebook group for reselling, and people in your area could come pick them up.

If your neighborhood has curbside recycling pickup, you can put glass, plastic, and paper straight into your recycling bin. If not, put your recyclables throughout bags and take them to the nearest place where you can drop them off.

Not everything will be in good enough condition to sell or give away. Able to rent a dumpster is a cheap and easy way to get rid of a lot of trash or bigger items from around the house. We can help you with this, too. We’ll bring the dumpster to your carport, you can fill it at your own pace, and we’ll take it away.
