Putting TVs on the wall is a great way to make their living rooms feel more comfortable. If you know how to attach a TV to the wall, you can raise it and save space on the floor. Deciding on a TV Mount
Choosing a wall mount is the first step in learning how to mount a TV. There are various types of TV wall mounts.
- Fixed TV wall mounts hold the television in place, flush against the wall.
- Swivel TV wall mounts enable the screen to pivot to the left and right, allowing for viewing from anywhere in the room.
- When installed higher on a wall, tilting TV wall mounts allow you to angle the computer down for better viewing.
- Full-motion TV wall mounts allow you to manually adjust the television’s angle to the right, left, up, and down. Some models include a telescoping arm, which is useful when mounting a TV on a wall in a corner.
Mounting hardware has size and weight restrictions. Check the product specifications to ensure that your television will work with the mounting brackets.
Select your location and height
It takes a little bit of planning to hang a TV on the wall. Think ahead before you drill holes in your wall to save time and stress. Think about where you want to put the TV first.
- Choose a spot where you can easily reach power outlets, places to plug in cables, and connections for speaker systems and other accessories.
- Figure out where things like cable boxes, video game consoles, and DVD players will go.
- You might want to put a shelf under the mounted TV to hold important things.
- Don’t put it where it will get direct sunlight, heat, or vibrations, and don’t put it in the way of traffic.
- Choose a wall that can hold weight. The wall must be able to hold four times the weight of the hardware and all of the hardware and parts that are attached to it.
Find Studs
When you mount a TV on the wall, you must insert it into studs. Don’t use anchors for hollow walls because they can’t hold the weight of the TV wall mount brackets and the TV.
- Run a stud search function along the surface of the paper once you’ve found a good place to hang the TV.
- Find the two studs in your wall that your TV will be mounted to. (Some models only have one stud to hold them together.)
- With a pencil, mark where the center of each stud is. Use a nail to make sure you’ve found a stud.
If you want to mount a TV on a brick wall, you won’t need to look for studs. Use masonry anchors to fix the mount to the wall instead.
Identify Pilot Holes
- Remove the paper and lightly mark with a pencil where corners of the TV will be.
- Find out how far apart the holes at the top and bottom of each TV mounting arm are. Put two marks in the middle of each wall stud where these holes are.
- Use a level to ensure that the holes for mounting each arm are all the same size.
Place the Wall Mount
- Place the flat screen wall mount or TV mount brackets against the wall and use a level to ensure that they are level.
- Use a friend to assist you in holding the wall mount.
- Drill pilot holes into the studs along the mounting marks you’ve made with a drill.
Mount the Holder to the Wall
- Have a companion hold the mount against the ceiling where the pilot holes have been drilled.
- Drive the screws with a drill to attach the mount to the wall.
- Once mounted, verify the item’s level once more.
